Statement from Steven Del Duca Celebrating Greek Independence Day

“I am pleased to extend my warm greetings to Ontario’s Greek communities as you celebrate the bicentennial of Greece’s independence.

Today we are celebrating the 200th anniversary of the start of the Greek Revolution of 1821, the start of a long struggle, against the odds, which lead to the birth of the modern Greek state.

Ontario is home to a long-established and flourishing Greek community, one that has contributed considerably to both our character and our development as a province.

In previous years, the day was marked with flag raising ceremonies, parades and gala dinners. This Independence Day occurs as the world struggles with the challenges presented by COVID-19. I am happy to participate virtually with you as you celebrate this milestone in your nation’s history.

Long live Greece!”
