Statement from Ontario Liberal Leader Bonnie Crombie on Pride Month

QUEEN’S PARK — Today, Bonnie Crombie, the Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, released the following statement:

“As we begin Pride Month, we honour and celebrate the contributions of 2SLGBTQIA+ Ontarians.

While this month should serve as a time of celebration and joy, we must also remember the history of Pride as a protest movement. We cannot forget that the rights and freedoms so many enjoy today were achieved through adversity and challenging the status quo, and that these rights can never be taken for granted.

I believe as a province there is more that unites us than divides us. But I have been also saddened to witness some of the homophobic and transphobic protests and hate crimes that have occurred in Ontario since last year’s Pride. This is not who we are as a province, and Ontario Liberals will always stand with 2SLGBTQIA+ Ontarians in the face of bigotry and hate.

Love is love, not just during Pride but every day of the year.

On behalf of the Ontario Liberal Party, I wish all 2LGBTQIA+ Ontarians a very happy Pride Month!”
