Statement from Steven Del Duca on Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day

“On Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day, we mourn those who were lost, and vow to never forget the horrific crimes committed against the Armenian people. I join the Armenian community in Ontario today in remembering the victims, and stand with them in solidarity against hate.

“Beginning in 1915, over one million Armenians faced deportation, systemic murder, and ethnic cleansing. Today, Armenians in Ontario will not only commemorate those brutal events, they will reflect on the tragic loss of Armenian culture and history that thrived in Asia Minor for two thousand years prior to the mass expulsion of their people.

“With a notable rise in hateful incidents across our province today, we must always stand vigilant in order to prevent such crimes against humanity that the Armenian people suffered 107 years ago. This is the lesson imparted to us from this deeply painful period in history, that we must always remember and take action against hate.”
