Statement from MPP Collard on the Lack of French-Language Services at ServiceOntario Kiosks at Staples

TORONTO, ON — Lucille Collard, MPP for Ottawa-Vanier and Ontario Liberal critic for Francophone Affairs, has released the following statement:

Once again, Doug Ford’s Conservatives are demonstrating that they don’t understand their legal obligation to actively offer French-language services in regions designated under the French Language Services Act.

Waiting hours to receive services in French at ServiceOntario is not at all acceptable. But that’s hardly surprising when government services are entrusted to a large, multi-billion-dollar U.S. corporation through a lucrative sole-source contract.

Whether it’s the significant shortage of qualified teachers in our francophone schools, the lack of bilingual health professionals, or the government’s inability to provide judicial services in French in designated regions, the Conservatives have time and again demonstrated a total lack of respect for the rights of Franco-Ontarians.

This is just another example of Doug Ford selling off the public services we rely on to enrich his friends.
