Statement from Mitzie Hunter on the Stalemate of CUPE Contract Talks

TORONTO, ON – Mitzie Hunter, MPP for Scarborough–Guildwood and the Ontario Liberal critic for Education, has released the following statement in response to the stalemate of contract talks between the Ontario government and the province’s education workers:

“By refusing to entertain the idea of providing our education workers with the compensation they deserve, Doug Ford and Stephen Lecce have forced negotiations to take a step backwards.

“The most important thing for parents and students right now is for Ford and Lecce to take the contract talks seriously and ensure our children do not miss any more class time.

“The government has promised parents and students that they will ensure schools continue to function. They must make good on this promise by coming prepared to hammer out a fair deal for education workers on November 1, not by threatening to introduce back-to-work legislation.”
