OTTAWA — Today, Ontario’s Liberals committed to get Ottawa moving after seven years of Doug Ford’s backward priorities and failure to get it done.
“The people of Ottawa deserve a government that shows up for them,” said Bonnie Crombie, Leader of Ontario’s Liberals. “My team has always had Ottawa’s back. We know you need more than you’re getting from Doug Ford, and Ontario’s Liberals are committed to working with Ottawa on a transportation system that does more for you.”
The Liberals’ plan to deliver better transit for Ottawa will:
-
Upload Ottawa’s Rail Transit System to the province, ensuring better coordination and funding for expansion and maintenance.
-
Extend Light Rail to Kanata and Barrhaven, fulfilling the long-awaited promise of comprehensive rail transit for Ottawa’s growing communities.
-
Upload Highway 174 to the province, allowing for improved maintenance and potential expansion.
-
Build a dedicated bus/HOV lane to Rockland to connect to the LRT at Trim Road, enhancing transit options for riders east of Ottawa.
“The Ford government blatantly ignores Ottawa without any second thought of fairness toward our residents,” said Stephen Blais, Ontario Liberal candidate for Orléans. “Ford’s failed Ottawa deal provided zero money for our public transit riders who pay more than their fair share of provincial taxes.”
“Ontario’s Liberals have always delivered public transit for the people of Ottawa. The extension of light rail to Kanata will improve the lives of people in my riding, and across the city,” said Karen McCrimmon, Ontario Liberal candidate for Kanata–Carleton.
“It’s time that Ottawa gets its fair share,” said Tyler Watt, Ontario Liberal candidate for Nepean. “Nepean has grown significantly over the past few years, but our community hasn’t been met with the investments needed to keep up with demand. We need to expand our roads, including Prince of Wales, connect our community to the LRT system, and finally start building the Barnsdale interchange. We can no longer be overlooked by our provincial government.”
