Bonnie Crombie commits to improving health care and public transit in Kitchener, putting its residents and their needs first.

KITCHENER —Bonnie Crombie, Leader of Ontario’s Liberals, announced a comprehensive plan to address Kitchener-Waterloo’s urgent health care and transit needs during an address to the Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber of Commerce.
“Doug Ford doesn’t want to talk about health care because he can’t defend his deadly record of neglect,” said Bonnie Crombie. “Here in Kitchener-Waterloo, 123,879 people don’t have a family doctor. That’s unacceptable. While Ford is busy making his rich friends richer, we will invest in real solutions that make your lives easier.”
The Ontario’s Liberals’ commitments to reverse Ford’s failures include:
- Expand the ION LRT system by adding 17 km of rapid transit from Fairway Station in Kitchener to Downtown Cambridge, seamlessly connecting Waterloo Region’s urban centres.
- Accelerate the St. Mary’s and Grand River hospital redevelopment that will add 500 new hospital beds and a new emergency room, ensuring residents have access to publicly-funded health care.
- Deliver all-day two-way GO Transit between Kitchener and Toronto.
“Seven years ago, Doug Ford promised to fix hallway healthcare. He didn’t get it done. Instead, he’s turned gyms and floors into treatment spaces while patients die on waitlists,” said Bonnie Crombie. “We’re done with shortcuts. It’s time to put the people of Ontario first and do more for them. We’ll deliver the beds, doctors, and transit that families in Kitchener-Waterloo deserve.”
“We need a government that supports real people like you and me. Over the last 7 years Ford’s empty promises have made life more and more difficult and unaffordable. We’ll change that. Ontario’s Liberals have a solid plan to expand our LRT from Cambridge to Kitchener, accelerate the building of more hospital space, and make sure everyone in Ontario has a family doctor within four years. This is the kind of leadership our region deserves – a strong local voice for Cambridge,” said Rob Deutschmann, Ontario Liberal candidate for Cambridge.
“Residents are tired of overcrowded buses and ER wait times that are way too long. Doug Ford doesn’t care about us. He has abandoned the province and its people once again when it needs strong leadership more than ever. With Bonnie as our Premier, we’ll finally get the LRT to Cambridge and a hospital system that works,” said Colleen James, Ontario Liberal candidate for Kitchener-Centre.
