Liberals in Scarborough Centre Nominate Mazhar Shafiq as 2022 Ontario Liberal Party Candidate

October 6, 2020 – Liberals in Scarborough Centre have nominated Mazhar Shafiq, a dedicated community volunteer and former highway engineer, as their Ontario Liberal Party (OLP) candidate for the 2022 provincial election.

“I’m happy to welcome Mazhar Shafiq to our Liberal team for the next provincial election,” said OLP Leader, Steven Del Duca. “Mazhar’s experience and passion for change in his community will be a welcomed addition to our party, and to Queen’s Park.”

Shafiq was a highway engineer in Pakistan before moving to Canada years ago. Upon arriving in Canada, he earned a post-graduate certificate from Sheridan College and worked in various roles in the automotive sector, before entering politics.

“I would like to thank Scarborough Centre Liberals for placing their trust in me to carry the banner in 2022,” said newly nominated candidate for Scarborough Centre, Mazhar Shafiq. “I’m excited to join a diverse team of candidates, united behind a plan to improve the lives of people in Scarborough Centre and across Ontario.”
