Doug Ford Sits On Billions While Asking For More

TORONTO – Steven Del Duca, Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, issued the following statement:

“Today Doug Ford is meeting with Justin Trudeau to ask for billions in new funding for healthcare, but he’s still sitting on billions of dollars that are going unspent.

While I support the call for the federal government to increase its share of healthcare funding to 35%, I can’t help but think it’s hypocritical coming from Doug Ford. People are dying because he’s hoarding billions of dollars during a pandemic.

Doug Ford needs to start showing some leadership and use that money to address the catastrophe in Ontario’s nursing homes, shrink unsafe class sizes, and support entrepreneurs struggling to meet payroll because of lockdowns.

Ontario Liberals would use that funding to save lives and livelihoods now, rather than save for a rainy day.

Doug Ford needs to stop counting on Prime Minister Trudeau to do the heavy lifting, and prove that new federal funding will be spent instead of going into the Conservative government’s piggy bank.”
