NEWMARKET, ON – Chris Ballard, former Member of Provincial Parliament and Cabinet Minister, has been officially nominated as the Ontario Liberal candidate for Newmarket—Aurora.

Chris Ballard knows his community. As the former MPP for Newmarket—Aurora and Cabinet Minister, he delivered on local issues like jobs, housing, healthcare, education and environment. As the former MPP, Chris prioritized the local economy, working with companies and governments to bring good jobs to the area. He worked with municipal governments and the province to help offset property taxes with provincial initiatives.
As Minister of Housing, he delivered province-wide rent control, took on housing speculators, tackles homelessness and supported construction of our riding’s first new rental tower in more than 20 years. Chris worked with the Town of Newmarket and Metrolinx and got approval for a new GO Train station on Mulock Drive, part of his push for improved all-day, two-way GO Train service for our community.
Chris previously served as a Councillor for the Town of Aurora and worked as a local journalist in Newmarket and Aurora. He owned a successful business for nearly three decades and is now the CEO of a national organization representing architects and engineers building affordable, climate resilient homes. Chris is volunteer president of the Consumers Council of Canada, a consumer advocacy think tank. His leadership in journalism, communications and public affairs includes terms as President of the Public Affairs Association of Canada.
He and his wife, Audrey, raised their three children in Aurora, which they have called home for more than 35 years.
