Ford’s Delayed Actions Could Have Saved Countless Restaurants

TORONTO – Doug Ford’s decision today to cap restaurant fees is welcome – but months too late, charged Amanda Simard, MPP for Glengarry–Prescott–Russell. 

“Since May, I have been asking the government to take swift action to help restaurants across Ontario. Today’s announcement is welcome but long overdue.” 

“Today’s relief applies only in two regions where indoor dining is closed leaving thousands of restaurants out in the cold. Even in areas where indoor dining is allowed, seating capacity has been so reduced that restaurants are struggling. Instead of helping all restaurants across Ontario, the Ford PCs are doing the bare minimum.” 

“Had the Ford government made today’s announcement months ago, countless restaurants could have been saved. They have never been proactive, only reactive, and they’ve let small business owners down,” concluded Simard.
