Toronto Public Health Signals Concerns With Doug Ford’s Plan For TDSB

TORONTO – Steven Del Duca, Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, made the following statement:

“With just over 30 days to go until Ontario’s school doors open, another significant health association – Toronto Public Health – has raised concerns about how Doug Ford’s return-to-class plan fails to address class sizes and physical distancing.

“Like all School Boards in Ontario, the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) has been left to do what it can with the little they have been given by this government.

“What is most concerning is that TDSB’s hands are tied. They haven’t been given what they desperately need for a safe return to school for our students, their parents and teachers. As a result, without more class space, more teachers, and more resources, the TDSB plan fails to measure-up to Toronto Public Health standards.

“If Doug Ford doesn’t change his plan, parents face the impossible decision of choosing between their family’s health, their kids’ education, and their jobs.

“First Doug Ford didn’t have a plan. Now, the plan he has doesn’t even start to address what is needed. He is pinching pennies when it comes to our children.  He says he is relying on ‘prayers’, but that is not a plan Ontarians deserve.

“The Liberal Plan I put forward, addresses head-on what is needed now to open up our schools safely to get our kids back in the classes and get people back to work.
