Steven Del Duca Celebrates Ismaili Imamat Day

On Imamat Day, we join with Ismaili Muslims in Ontario and around the world in celebrating the anniversary of the ascension of the Aga Khan as the 49th Hereditary Imam of Shia Imami Islmaili Mulims.

His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan IV ascended to the Throne of the Imamat on July 11, 1957 and for over 6 decades has worked in service of human rights. He has fought against poverty and inequality tirelessly.

The spiritual leader of the world’s 15 million Ismaili Muslims, the Aga Khan has been a champion of diversity and compassion, and an advocate for the rights of all.

A humanitarian and philanthropist, he worked to promote and honour Islamic art worldwide, and in 2014 established the Aga Khan Museum right here in Ontario, the first museum in the Western World dedicated to Islamic art.

The Aga Khan’s example of tolerance and compassion is one we can all carry. On behalf of myself and the Ontario Liberal Party, I wish all Ismaili Canadians celebrating today a heartfelt Khushiali Mubarak!
