Virtual Question Period: May 5

The legislature may not be sitting – but Ontario Liberals are hard at work holding the government accountable. Here’s what we would have asked if Question Period was held today.

Today’s Questions come from MPP Stephen Blais

ORDER!

Question for the Premier of Ontario: Premier, the province of Quebec is stopping Ottawa residents from entering Quebec. This past weekend, 1,700 Ontario residents were turned away at the border in Ottawa. But when it came to Quebec residents trying to enter Ontario, all of them were let in with no medical screening whatsoever. Premier, people are upset about this unfairness – what steps will the province of Ontario take to ensure fair border crossings?

Supplementary: The province of Quebec is opening for business much faster than here in Ontario. What measures is your government putting in place to protect Ontario, should Quebec’s decision to reopen lead to an increase in community spread?

Question for the Premier of Ontario: Yesterday, we heard from the CBC that PSWs have tested positive for COVID-19 after only being given surgical masks. The Premier said he agreed they should have N95s – but the Minister of long-term care said she would take no action and it needed further study. Is the government going to pass the buck? Or will it finally take action to protect PSWs and give them N95s?

Supplementary: Premier, there is a disturbing news report out of Ottawa. A Nurse entered a long-term care facility and was told to remove personal protective equipment – contrary to regulations and guidelines. She found a lack of PPE and mishandling of it. When she asked for the rules to be followed she was sent home. What is the province doing about this? And when will it inspect all long-term care homes to ensure that both PPE is available and that proper procedures are being followed?
