Virtual Question Period: May 4

The legislature may not be sitting – but Ontario Liberals are hard at work holding the government accountable. Here’s what we would have asked if Question Period was held today.

ORDER!

Question for the Premier of Ontario: The Premier fired the Chief Scientist of Ontario – he promised to hire a new one but never did.

Will the Premier commit today to urgently hiring a new Chief Scientist?

Supplementary: When the Premier fired the Chief Scientist of Ontario he refused to say why. Media report after media report noted the Premier was silent when it came to providing any sort of explanation. Can the Premier explain now why he fired the Chief Scientist in the first place?

Question for the Premier of Ontario: Premier, we know many jurisdictions are underestimating the death toll of COVID-19. But when you compare mortality numbers year over year you get a much better understanding of what the effect of the virus has been. There’s just one problem: Ontario won’t be releasing mortality data until January of 2022. Will the Premier commit today to release mortality data on a weekly basis so we can know the true impacts of COVID-19?

Supplementary: Premier, we’ve learned that funeral homes are passing on the costs of PPE to grieving families – and we’ve heard reports that some funeral homes are gouging Ontarians by artificially inflating their prices. Will the Premier take action on this immediately? Grieving families should not be be gouged for funeral services.
