Rent Help From the Province is Needed Now

Ontario’s residential tenants and commercial leaseholders need immediate provincial assistance.

With May 1st just around the corner, many residential tenants and small-and-medium business owners are waiting on the government to finally step up and provide support.

Tens of thousands of Ontarians who have lost their jobs due to COVID-19 need support, and the entrepreneurs who power our economy can’t be left behind.

Ontario has consistently lagged behind other Canadian provinces, such as British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Quebec, which provided support for tenants over a month ago.

The Premier has stated that no evictions will occur but his government’s follow-up has been unclear and that’s just not good enough. Ontario’s residential and commercial tenants should not be abandoned by their provincial government.

Too often, Doug Ford’s playbook has been simple: wait for a problem to become a crisis.

He waited while what was an ember at long term care homes turned into a wildfire.
