Ontario Liberals elect Steven Del Duca as new Party Leader

MISSISSAUGA, ON — More than 3,000 party members came together in Mississauga this weekend and elected Steven Del Duca as the new Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party.

“To everyone who participated in the 2020 Leadership – the candidates, the volunteers, and the voters – thank you,” said Brian Johns, Party President. “Our party is stronger because you chose to be a part of our movement. And we look forward to keeping this momentum under our new leader, Mr. Del Duca.”

Since November, six strong candidates and more than 38,000 party members came together to rebuild the Ontario Liberal Party and start the hard work of winning the next election.

Del Duca is a first-generation Canadian – the son of a Scottish mother and an Italian father.

He has been an active Liberal since he was 15, working as a local campaign volunteer, a riding president, a campus club president, a political staffer, a campaign manager, an Executive Council Member, a candidate, an MPP, and a Cabinet Minister.

“As new Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, I want to build an Ontario where genuine opportunity is real for everyone, where both entrepreneurs and workers can thrive, and individual success is only limited by talent, effort, and dedication,” said Del Duca. “Under my leadership, I can promise our members – and all Ontarians – that the Ontario Liberal Party will be relentless in the pursuit of progress and never stop fighting for a better Ontario.”

Ontario Liberals will come together again, with their new leader, in June for the party’s annual general meeting in London, Ontario to continue renewing the party and building up for the 2022 election.
