Statement from Interim Liberal Leader John Fraser on the passing of David Caplan

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 25, 2019—It is with deep sadness that we mourn the untimely passing of David Caplan, our colleague and friend who was taken from us too soon.

David was a dedicated public servant and an active member of the Ontario Liberal family. He was elected as trustee to the North York Board of Education in 1991 for six years. He served as a Liberal member of provincial parliament for the ridings of Oriole and Don Valley East from 1997 to 2011, first winning his seat formerly occupied by his mother, Elinor Caplan. In 2003, David was first appointed as Minister of Public Infrastructure Renewal and was later chosen to be the Minister of Health in 2008, serving in Premier Dalton McGuinty’s cabinet.

David cared deeply about his community and was a strong voice for his constituents. His passion was public service.

David will be greatly missed by his Ontario Liberal family.

Our heart goes out to his wife, Leigh and two sons, Benjamin and Jacob, during this difficult time.

Sending our deepest condolences to the Caplan family and loved ones. He will be missed.
