FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OTTAWA, ON. — Today, Karen McCrimmon, MPP for Kanata—Carleton and Ontario Liberal Critic for Public Safety, Cybersecurity & Crime Prevention, and Solicitor General, released the following statement calling for a full, independent judicial inquiry after seven Toronto police officers were charged with serious corruption-related offences.
I am deeply disturbed by the news that 7 Toronto police officers have been charged with serious corruption-related crimes. These allegations strike at the very foundation of public trust and the integrity of our justice system. Law enforcement officers are entrusted with immense power and responsibility, and any abuse of that trust is unacceptable.
I know what is involved with wearing a uniform and the responsibility that comes with that honour. Serving your nation, your province or your community with respect is not something that should be taken lightly.
This is not a matter that can be handled quietly or internally. I am calling for a full, independent judicial inquiry to investigate the full scope of these actions, identify systemic failures, and recommend meaningful reforms. The public deserves transparency, truth, and justice. Trust in our institutions can only be restored through openness, accountability, and real consequences for wrongdoing — no matter who is involved.
