Ford Conservatives Refuse to Stop the Campbellville Quarry

Conservatives shut down motion calling on the government to stop the Campbellville Quarry expansion

QUEEN’S PARK – Today, on Earth Day, Ontario Liberal Critic for Rural Issues and Natural Resources, MPP Ted Hsu, sent a letter to Minister Graydon Smith, urging the Conservatives to vote yes to a motion calling on the Ontario government to listen to the concerns of residents in Milton and immediately cancel the Campbellville Quarry.

Milton families have put up with years of empty Conservative promises, all the while the project has continued to proceed thanks to Doug Ford’s weakened environmental regulations.

This afternoon — after receiving the letter from MPP Hsu — Ford’s Conservatives voted against the motion, showing their support for the Campbellville Quarry that threatens Milton’s greenspace and the safety of their drinking water.

“Now that there is a by-election that risks a Conservative seat, Doug Ford is holding the fate of the quarry over the heads of Milton in a despicable and transparent show of power. It’s clear that the Conservatives have no intention of stopping the Campbellville Quarry, and are instead more interested in looking out for their rich friends who stand to benefit from bulldozing our greenspaces. Unlike Doug Ford, Bonnie Crombie and Ontario’s Liberals stand firmly with the people of Milton.” — Ted Hsu, Ontario Liberal Critic for Rural Issues and Natural Resources

Today’s events come just days after Ford’s Conservatives said no to a motion proposing the continuation of free testing for well water across Ontario, which has caused real worry across rural Ontario.
