Conservative Government Continues to Undermine our Critical Public Services: MPP Bowman

QUEEN’S PARK – Stephanie Bowman, MPP for Don Valley West and Ontario Liberal Finance critic, has released the following statement in response to Tuesday morning’s report released by the Financial Accountability Office of Ontario (FAO):

“Right now in Ontario, we have children’s hospitals that are over capacity, emergency rooms that are closing, and Ontarians who are unable to access the care they need when they need it. Instead of investing in our critical public services at a time when families need help the most, this Conservative government has chosen to underfund every single sector in Ontario, storing billions of dollars in their historically high contingency funds and underspending from their own plan by $859 million in healthcare and by $413 million in education.

“The government says they are saving for unforeseen risks, but the reality is those risks are here now, and we need to invest now in the services that will help Ontarians thrive. You cannot spend later to make up for the time we are currently losing – time that should be spent treating patients and providing students with a world-class education.”
