Steven Del Duca, Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, issued the following statement on Thai Pongal:
“Over the next four days, the Tamil community in Ontario and around the world will celebrate Thai Pongal, marking the annual movement of the Sun into the Northern Hemisphere and the beginning of the reversal of winter.
During this time, we also continue to celebrate Tamil Heritage Month, and everything the Tamil community has accomplished and done to make Ontario a better place for everyone. I want to especially thank the Tamil community for stepping to help protect us all during the COVID-19 pandemic. Whether it was on the frontlines in hospitals, helping to administer vaccines, or taking care of fellow community members, we all owe the Tamil community our eternal gratitude.
Each year, I look forward to joining the Tamil community in celebrating Thai Pongal, and while doing so in person may not be possible this year, I know Ontario’s Tamil community will still find ways to safely celebrate this tremendous occasion.
On behalf of our family and the Ontario Liberal Party, I want to wish everyone celebrating a very happy Thai Pongal.
