TORONTO – Ontario Liberals are calling for the urgent passage of the National Council of Canadian Muslims’ Our London Family Act. Liberal Leader, Steven Del Duca made the call alongside NCCM CEO, Mustafa Farooq, offering to have an Ontario Liberal MPP co-sponsor the legislation.
“In the aftermath of the tragic terrorist attack in London all political leaders committed to taking action on combating Islamophobia,” stated Del Duca. “Passing the Our London Family Act urgently would be the best first step at tackling the rising number of hateful incidents in Ontario.”
Ontario Liberal House Leader, John Fraser will be reaching out to New Democrats to offer a co-sponsor for the legislation to help ensure it is passed as a bipartisan effort. This is about all political parties and leaders standing shoulder to shoulder with the NCCM and all Muslims against Islamophobia.
“I want to thank Steven Del Duca for standing up to take action,” said NCCM CEO, Mustafa Farooq. “I look forward to engaging with every party leader as I am sure that they will do the same. As our three parties prepare for the election in the Spring, our call is simple. No more violence. Our communities cannot wait until after the election for change. We are calling on all of our leaders, across party lines, to work together and make change a reality.”
