Liberals in Glengarry—Prescott—Russell Nominate Amanda Simard as 2022 Ontario Liberal Party Candidate

November 18, 2021 – Liberals in Glengarry—Prescott—Russell have nominated Amanda Simard, who is the current MPP, as their Ontario Liberal Party (OLP) candidate for the next provincial election.

“Amanda has done a fantastic job of representing her community at Queen’s Park, and has continued to stand up to Doug Ford’s disastrous cuts to French-language services,” said OLP Leader, Steven Del Duca. “I am thrilled to have Amanda on our team as we prepare for next year’s provincial election.”

Amanda Simard was elected as the MPP for Glengarry—Prescott—Russell in 2018 and appointed as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Francophone Affairs. After the Conservative cuts to French-language services, Simard left the government to sit as an Independent. She serves at the international level as Chair of the Network of Young Parliamentarians of the Assemblée parlementaire de la Francophonie and is a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. Before her election in 2018, she served as a Municipal Councillor in her riding. She graduated from the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Law and worked at the Parliament of Canada from 2009 to 2017.

In 2020, Simard joined the Ontario Liberal Caucus and currently serves as the Critic for Francophone Affairs, Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture, and Small Business and Red Tape Reduction.

“I’m proud to have delivered concrete results for our community since being elected in 2018, and to have stood up to Doug Ford and the conservatives as they cut essential services for Ontarians,” said Simard. “I’m looking forward to earning once again the trust of the people of Glengarry—Prescott—Russell so that we continue delivering results together.”
