Del Duca: We Must Defend Our Charter Rights

Steven Del Duca, Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, issued the following statement:

Today, on the 39th anniversary of our Charter of Rights and Freedoms, I demand that Doug Ford reverse his unconscionable decision to inappropriately enlist Ontario’s police services to do his dirty work.

Public health leaders, science table members, municipal leaders and all opposition parties have called on Ford to deliver paid sick leave to stop the spread of virus, and he’s refused.

Instead, he’s recklessly chosen policing over public health — a move that will needlessly target racialized Ontarians who are already shouldering a disproportionate share of the pandemic’s negative impact.

This is an egregious misuse of his authority and it cannot be allowed to stand. I will do everything I can to defend our Charter rights and stand up against Doug Ford’s dangerous decisions.”
