Statement from Steven Del Duca on Yom Kippur

Today, Steven Del Duca, Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, issued the following statement:

“At sundown tonight, Jews in Ontario and around the world will begin Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the Jewish year. It’s marked by a 25 hour fast, intensive prayer and reflection.

According to Jewish tradition, it is on Yom Kippur that God decides each person’s fate, so Jews are encouraged to make amends and ask forgiveness for sins committed during the past year.

This year, we’ve seen several despicable acts of hate directed towards the Jewish community. That weighs heavily on us all, and it’s important we all stand up and speak out against anti-Semitism and all forms of hate. I will always stand with the Jewish community, and so will the Ontario Liberal Party.

To all of those observing, on behalf of myself, my family, and Ontario Liberals, I wish you a g’mar chatima tova and an easy and safe fast.”
