QUEEN’S PARK – As Ontario awaits Doug Ford’s seventh provincial budget, the Ontario Liberal Party is calling on the government to finally deliver a plan that puts Ontarians first by investing in healthcare, education, housing, and jobs.
For too long, Ontarians have been asked to settle for less while the Ford government hands out taxpayer money to a well-connected few. Families are waiting longer for healthcare, classrooms are overcrowded, and housing is increasingly out of reach. This budget must be about fixing our public services, not throwing more money at Ford’s pet projects and private interests.
“This budget is a test,” said Bonnie Crombie, leader of the Ontario Liberal Party. “Doug Ford can either put forward a plan that invests in people or he can continue to waste public money on well-connected insiders. Ontarians are watching. They’re ready for a government that puts them first.”
Ontario Liberals want to see a budget focused on healthcare, that has concrete steps and funding to get every Ontarian a family doctor and a reduction in wait times in hospitals. This budget must invest in education to fix our crumbling schools and reduce class sizes so that students can get the support they need. It must also focus on affordable housing by cutting taxes on new homes and make renting more affordable by introducing fair, phased-in rent control.
“Ford’s Conservative government is spending 1.5 times faster than inflation, but Ontarians aren’t getting the services they deserve” says Stephanie Bowman, Ontario Liberal Critic for Finance. “Ontario is paying more and getting less because Ford’s government is more focused on privatization and patronage than public service.”
The Ontario Liberals are calling for a real plan to protect jobs. Unemployment is rising, and workers are feeling the pain. Doug Ford called an early election claiming he’d protect our economy from Trump’s tariffs, but since then, Ontario has seen wave after wave of layoffs, plant closures, and lost investment. This budget must deliver immediate relief and real support for the workers being left behind now. The Ontario Liberals want to see tax cuts for the middle class and small businesses which will provide permanent relief so that they can stay afloat. We know times are tough right now, that’s why it’s more important than ever that the government spend taxpayer dollars properly.
The Ontario Liberal Party is urging the Premier to change course and deliver a budget that focuses on public services, affordability, and long-term economic opportunity—not insider deals and short-term headlines.
