Ontario Liberals Tap Long-Serving Mayor and Former Middlesex County Warden as Ontario Liberal Candidate

LUCAN BIDDULPH, ON – Cathy Burghardt-Jesson, the third-term Mayor of Lucan Biddulph and three-term Warden of Middlesex County, is the next Ontario Liberal candidate for Lambton—Kent—Middlesex.

“Unlike the Ford Conservatives, Cathy has spent over a decade squarely focused on serving families and being their strong voice on municipal councils,” said Bonnie Crombie, Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party. “I am thrilled to have Cathy on our team, and I look forward to welcoming her to Queen’s Park where she will build on her advocacy for rural Ontario.”

Raised in a family where service to your community was an expectation, Burghardt-Jesson has spent a lifetime living up to those values and giving back to the people around her.

First elected to municipal council in 2010 as the Deputy Mayor of Lucan Biddulph, Cathy Burghardt-Jesson has passionately served the residents of her community for well over a decade. Since 2014, Burghardt-Jesson has served as Mayor of Lucan Biddulph, and between the years of 2014 and 2023, she fought to further the well-being of families in rural Ontario as a Councillor and the Warden of Middlesex County. She now continues her service to Middlesex County as Deputy Warden.

A former small business owner, Burghardt-Jesson understands the importance of the rural economy and has seen first-hand how Doug Ford continues to fail rural communities.

“The Ford Conservatives have consistently operated behind closed doors and failed to consult with municipalities and everyday Ontarians in rural Ontario,” said Burghardt-Jesson. “Our local priorities are being paved over by Doug Ford, and we are not getting the investments in roads, healthcare, and education that our community deserves. I am thrilled to join Bonnie Crombie’s team and look forward to getting to work on day one to be the strong partner that rural Ontario deserves.”
