Ontario Liberals Call for Auditor General to Investigate Highway 407 Deal

TORONTO – Ontario Liberals have written to the Auditor General to request an investigation into revelations that Doug Ford agreed to grant the owners of Highway 407 nearly $1-billion in forgiveness from penalties without pushing for reduced tolls for Ontario commuters.

Experts suggest that the reduction or elimination of tolls on Highway 407 could provide the immediate relief that Doug Ford claims he is pursuing with his misguided $10-billion plan for Highway 413 which will take 10 years or more. But Doug Ford chose not to immediately help Ontario drivers by leveraging the nearly billion dollars in forgiveness from penalties.

“Doug Ford cannot look Ontario taxpayers in the eyes and honestly tell them he’s doing everything he can to address gridlock or spend their money well,” says Ontario Liberal Leader, Steven Del Duca. “The Auditor General should investigate this fishy deal that cost Ontarians nearly a billion dollars in exchange for nothing.”
