Conservatives’ Bill 60 Prioritizes Profits in New Two-Tier Healthcare System

QUEEN’S PARK – John Fraser, MPP for Ottawa South and Interim Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, has released the following statement in response to the passing of Bill 60:

“The passing of Bill 60 poses a serious threat to our healthcare system. At a time when our healthcare system is under stress and needs more support, the Ford Conservatives are heading in a different direction, choosing to add more profit into the care that Ontarians receive.

“What should be of great concern to all Ontarians is that the government’s solution to the healthcare human resources crisis – which will be the biggest ongoing challenge in this province for some time to come – is to set up a parallel system that will compete for the nurses, doctors, and frontline workers that our hospitals and long-term care homes desperately need.

There should be only one shareholder when it comes to our healthcare system, and that’s the patient.

“Ontario Liberals will continue to fight to protect our publicly funded system and to ensure Ontarians have access to the world-class healthcare they need and deserve.”
