Bonnie Crombie Calls On Ford to Rip Up Elon Musk’s Sweetheart Deal

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 22, 2025

TORONTO, ON — As uncertainty builds around the Trump administration’s plans to levy tariffs on Canadian goods, Bonnie Crombie, Leader of Ontario’s Liberals, issued the following statement on Ford’s sweetheart deal with Trump’s close friend and advisor, Elon Musk.

“It’s no surprise Doug Ford’s first thought is always booze, but if he were serious about standing up to Trump, he would cancel his sweetheart deal with Elon Musk.

“Why did Doug cozy up to Elon in the first place? This is a destructive man child who proudly styles his leadership after a dictator, and is championing the 25% tariff on Canada.

“Instead of denouncing Elon Musk, Doug gave his company $100 million dollars for something you can get at Costco for $500. Once again, Doug has put his rich friends and insiders above the real people of Ontario.

“Doug couldn’t stand up to Elon, and he isn’t standing up to Trump. Ontario doesn’t need an early election, it needs a Premier with a plan.”

— Bonnie Crombie, Leader of Ontario’s Liberals

Today, MPP Stephen Blais, Ontario Liberal Critic for Infrastructure, sent a letter to the Minister of Infrastructure requesting that the government cancel the deal with Elon Musk and find a made in Ontario solution so that Ontarians’ hard earned tax dollars are not used to enrich Trump administration officials as they threaten the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of Ontario workers and the future well being of their families.
