Proposed Amendments to the OLP Constitution

The report from the Constitution Committee can be found here.

Registration Status Categories

The delegate allocation process is determined by Section 8 of the OLP Constitution.

Constituency associations are entitled to a maximum of 15 Voting Delegates and 15 Alternate Delegates, student clubs are entitled to a maximum of 5 Voting Delegates and 5 Alternate Delegates, and women’s clubs are entitled to a maximum of 2 Voting Delegates and 2 Alternate Delegates.

“Voting Delegate”: You have a Voting Delegate position from your association. You are entitled to vote in the Leadership Review vote, the relevant Executive Council and Commission executive votes, and the constitution amendment votes.

“Alternate Delegate”: You have an Alternate Delegate position from your association. As it stands, you are not eligible to vote at the Annual Meeting. However, if you attend and register at the Annual Meeting, and if any of the Voting Delegates for your association do not attend and register at the Annual Meeting, there is a possibility that you may be “promoted” to a vacant Voting Delegate position. Unfortunately, there is no way to know if you will be “promoted” to a Voting Delegate position until prior to the close of Registration on the Saturday morning of the Annual Meeting. When you are at the Annual Meeting, please refer to the agenda for the exact time on early Saturday afternoon for the “Promotion of Alternate Delegates” to learn if you have been “promoted” to a vacant Voting Delegate position.

“Ex-Officio Voting Delegate”: You have a Voting Delegate position because of a position that you hold within the OLP. You are entitled to vote in the Leadership Review vote, the relevant Executive Council and Commission executive votes, and the constitution amendment votes.

“Registrant”: Your association has already filled all of it’s Voting Delegate and Alternate Delegate positions. As a member of the Ontario Liberal Party, you are entitled to attend the Annual Meeting, but you do not have voting status and you are not eligible to vote.

Delegate Elections

Everyone who registers and pays the OLP AGM registration fee shall automatically be deemed to have submitted an intent notice to stand for a Voting Delegate position, unless the person qualifies for an Ex-Officio Delegate position or registers as a non-member Observer.

All registrations that were submitted prior to 11:59pm on Friday, July 25 had equal standing in contention for the available Voting Delegate positions in the relevant association. There are six associations that have more registrations from prior to July 25 than available positions, and those six riding associations will have a vote to determine their Voting Delegate positions. The six associations are: Brampton Centre, Brampton East, Brampton North, Brampton South, Brampton West, and Milton.

After July 25, unfilled Delegate positions are filled in chronological order of registration.

UPDATE: All out-of-riding associate member delegate positions have been filled. It is STONGLY RECOMMENDED that everyone register for the riding association in which they live.

UPDATE: Some of the constituency associations have filled their 15 voting delegate positions. As of August 13, if you live in one of these constituencies, you are still encouraged to register and attend the Annual Meeting, however your registration status will be an Alternate Delegate or Registrant instead of a Voting Delegate. Please see the Registration Status Categories section above.
