Ontario Liberal Leader Responds to Indigenous Curriculum Changes

TORONTO – Ontario Liberal Leader, Steven Del Duca issued the following statement:

“I am relieved to see Doug Ford restore some of the Indigenous curriculum to our schools. We all have a shared duty to advance reconciliation efforts, and the curriculum changes should not have been canceled when Ford took office in 2018.

Indigenous reconciliation requires real action, and Ontario should be doing so much more. We need to expand the curriculum further, so children learn about Indigenous culture and the historical realities of this nation. We need a standalone Minister of Indigenous Reconciliation to work on implementing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s recommendations. And we need to make September 30th – National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – a statutory holiday in Ontario.

I’m urging Doug Ford to do the right thing and put a real effort into advancing Indigenous reconciliation in Ontario. Not only as we prepare to observe National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, but every other day too.”
