Del Duca: Why Did Ford Wait So Long To Hire Personal Support Workers?

Thousands of Ontario’s vulnerable seniors died under his care, and now Ontario’s ditherer-in-chief is scrambling.

TORONTO – Steven Del Duca, Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, issued the following statement:

“While vulnerable seniors died and nursing homes were in crisis, Doug Ford refused to hire PSWs to alleviate staffing shortages. Now he’s scrambling with announcements that appear to have been written on the back of a napkin, all to dodge the blame he’s certain to receive in the Long-Term Care Commission’s report.

Today’s announcement is too little and too late for the families who lost a loved one under Doug Ford’s watch. Where was he when they needed him most?

While hiring PSWs is always welcome, where was this announcement last year? Quebec started recruiting thousands of new PSWs during the first wave while Doug Ford dragged his feet and let the conditions in nursing homes deteriorate to an all time low.

Ontario Liberals would have acted immediately last year to build up and secure our nursing homes, to save lives and give our seniors the care they deserve.”
