Why Isn’t Ontario Vaccinating Over The Holidays?

Toronto – Steven Del Duca, Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, issued the following statement:

“Even as more than 2,000 people are infected daily, Doug Ford has paused vaccinations for the Holidays with fewer than 12,000 of Ontario’s 90,000 doses administered to date. COVID-19 isn’t taking a break, neither can our vaccination efforts.

The vaccine is the light at the end of the tunnel, we can’t afford to delay its rollout by nearly a week. With so many doses on hand and so few administered, there’s no excuse for the delay.

Ontario is currently last among provinces for per capita vaccinations, so how can Doug Ford justify any pause to the rollout? The Ontario Liberal motion for accountability on vaccination reporting passed unanimously, but this pause in the rollout hasn’t been reported yet.

I am calling on Doug Ford to end the vaccination pause right away, and ensure that all frontline health care workers and nursing home residents are vaccinated without delay. A continued and unnecessary pause will lead to more lives lost.
