Statement on New Zoning Restrictions for Consumption and Treatment Sites

OTTAWA, ON – Bonnie Crombie, Leader of Ontario’s Liberals, released the following statement:

For too many of our families—including my own—we have raw personal connections to the addictions and mental-health crisis. Of course these sites should not be next to schools, but it is so important we find smart, compassionate solutions to help our loved ones and neighbours fight these challenges.

Doug Ford has had plenty of opportunities to do exactly that. Instead, he dismantled the Opioid Emergency Task Force as soon as he formed government, while at the same time cutting health care funding to help for-profit companies. He’s had opportunities to make the right decisions the first time, rather than having to scramble to make changes.

Ontario’s Liberals will fund our health care system to support health care workers, communities and families to provide those suffering from addictions and mental-health issues with the care and support they need.

Ford needs to be clear on how they will maintain the capacity required to provide treatment to those who need it.”
