TORONTO – Steven Del Duca, Ontario Liberal Party Leader, made the following statement:

Today, the Premier took a good first step by increasing pay for front line workers.

This is something that was implemented over a month ago in Quebec and British Columbia – and something that we called for on March 30th.

The pay increase should be retroactive to March 17th – the day the state of emergency was declared. And paramedics should receive this additional funding – the province’s current plan excludes paramedics from receiving additional support.

Beyond this pandemic, the province must review the PSW compensation model and workforce structure, and we will need to do this hand and glove with organized labour and the LTC sector.

Our PSWs, Nurses and healthcare sector at large have been working tirelessly to provide care all over the province. Finally, they will receive proper compensation during the pandemic.
