Ontario Liberals To Seek Unanimous Consent On Motion To Condemn Islamophobia

TORONTO – Ontario Liberals will again seek unanimous consent on a motion to condemn Islamophobia, after Doug Ford’s Conservatives blocked the motion yesterday. After speaking with PC House Leader, Paul Calandra, all parties are expected to support the motion.

“It was appalling that Doug Ford’s Conservatives blocked a simple but meaningful motion to condemn Islamophobia, which shouldn’t be up for debate in Ontario,” said Ontario Liberal Leader, Steven Del Duca. “Given the importance of the Motion right now, we have come to an agreement with the PC caucus to pass it tonight.”

“We’re looking forward to Doug Ford’s government bringing forward their six month action plan to address systemic racism and pushing for a National Summit on Islamophobia, as the Motion calls for,” Del Duca added. “After the terrorist attack in London, it’s on all of us to not only speak out against hate in all forms, but to take action to stop it.”
