Ontario Liberal Leader Steven Del Duca Releases Statement Ahead of London Vigil

LONDON – Ontario Liberal Leader, Steven Del Duca issued the following statement before attending a vigil in London for those killed in Sunday’s attack:

“A child was left without a family. A community was left reeling. A faith was left terrified. That’s the result of the terrorist attack we saw in London on Sunday.

This tragedy has weighed heavily on us all, but especially the Muslim community, who has had to endure yet another attack on their faith. It’s on all Ontarians to make Muslims feel safe during these difficult times, to always speak out against hate and to take a serious look at how we as a society deal with the root causes behind attacks like this such as online extremism and the rise of far right hate groups.

As for the attacker, he must face the full weight of the law so that justice can be served and an example can be set that committing atrocities like this one will not go unpunished.

The hateful words and actions of Islamophobes and Xenophobes have no place in Ontario or Canada. It’s a duty we all share to stand up and speak out against hate of any kind.”
