Crombie promises to bring mental health care under OHIP so everyone in the province has access to the care they need.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 20, 2025
“Doug Ford is quietly selling-off our public health care system. He has purposefully neglected our public system to the point where people are turning to private care. That’s not the Canadian way. We are proud of our strong public healthcare system,” Crombie said. “I will stop the sell-off and fix our public system, so that people aren’t forced to use their credit card at private clinics.”
Crombie offered a powerful message to the Bay Street audience: without a healthcare system that works, Ontario’s economy will suffer.
She also promised to bring mental health care under OHIP.
“Mental health is health,” Crombie said. “At a moment when our kids are suffering with record breaking levels of anxiety and depression, eating disorders and suicide, we cannot just sit back and hope things get better.”
Protecting Public Health Care From American-Style Privatization
Ontario Liberals will stop privatization and expose Doug Ford’s hidden agenda. We will:
- Crack down on Ford’s for-profit health care by regulating temporary nursing agencies.
- Bring nurse practitioners (NPs) into the public system and ban private-pay NP clinics.
- Investigate Ford’s privatization plans, including a full review of Health Minister Sylvia Jones’ mandate letters.
Expanding Mental Health & Addiction Services
Under Crombie’s leadership, Ontario Liberals will:
- Introduce universal mental health care under OHIP, covering conditions like anxiety, depression, and eating disorders.
- Expand team-based care with evening/weekend appointments, integrated home care for seniors, and accessible mental health services for children and youth.
- Provide wraparound support to help people recover from addictions, including rapidly building supportive housing units.
Growing Ontario’s Economy So We Can Pay for The Healthcare We Need
Crombie committed to supporting businesses and protecting taxpayers. Ontario Liberals will:
- Establish a Fight Tariffs Fund to provide low-interest loans for Ontario businesses.
- Prioritize infrastructure investment in hospitals, roads, schools, and transit.
- Ensure Ontario taxpayer dollars support local businesses and jobs by excluding American companies like Elon Musk’s Starlink from procurement.
- Work with other provinces to remove interprovincial trade barriers.
Bonnie’s vision is clear: get the basics right in Ontario.
“That’s the deal when you vote for me: a healthy economy and a health care system that does more for you, so that together, we can bring back the opportunity of Ontario,” she said.
Today and every single day of this campaign, Bonnie Crombie shared her plan to get the basics right for you:
- Get a family doctor for everyone in Ontario;
- Cut income taxes and tax HST of home heating and hydro bills, saving an average family $1,150 a year;
- Help you find a home you can afford by scrapping development charges and the Land Transfer Tax to save you an average of $170,000, and phase-in rent control; and
- Double the ODSP rate so no one with a disability in Ontario lives in poverty.
