Federal and Municipal Leaders Lose Faith in Doug Ford’s Failed Plan

TORONTO – Steven Del Duca, Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, made the following statement:

“Local and national leaders are losing faith in Doug Ford’s failed response to COVID-19. Infection numbers continue to climb, reaching 1,388 today. Nevertheless, he continues to loosen restrictions.

Prime Minister Trudeau has called on Premiers to “do the right thing” and take rising infection numbers more seriously. I won’t be surprised if more municipalities join Peel in enacting their own restrictions. Doug Ford couldn’t provide leadership when it was needed most, and now federal and municipal governments are having to fill the void.

Hospitals are overcrowded and crying out for help, but Doug Ford isn’t listening. Once again, he’s betraying the people of Ontario with his negligence.

With Doug Ford caving to political pressure from his friends including members of his Conservative caucus, local public health units are on their own trying to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Doug Ford is acting on political, not medical advice. It’s a betrayal of the 15 million women and men looking to him for leadership.”
