Hospital President Lee Fairclough is Nominated as the Ontario Liberal Candidate for Etobicoke—Lakeshore

April 7, 2022 — Lee Fairclough is a 22-year Etobicoke resident and health care leader, who is running to stop the Conservative privatization agenda that they have been advancing under the cover of COVID. Lee has been nominated as the Ontario Liberal Party (OLP) candidate for Etobicoke—Lakeshore in the next provincial election.

“As a Hospital President, Lee saw the Ford Conservative failures in health care firsthand, she’s running to make sure those mistakes never happen again,” said OLP Leader, Steven Del Duca. “Lee has shown the exact kind of strong, steady leadership in health care that Ontario Liberals will bring to Queen’s Park. She will make a fantastic MPP for Etobicoke—Lakeshore.”

Fairclough has served as President of St. Mary’s Hospital since January 2020, leading the hospital for the entirety of the COVID-19 pandemic. In her previous role as Vice President, Quality Improvement at Health Quality Ontario, the province’s advisory organization on health care quality, Fairclough led efforts to improve patient care.

Fairclough is an Adjunct Professor in Health Policy at the University of Toronto, where she earned her Master of Health Science in Health Policy, Management and Evaluation. She earned her undergraduate degree in Biology and Mathematics from McMaster University. Fairclough started her career providing cancer treatment to patients at Princess Margaret Hospital as a Medical Radiation Technologist Therapist (MRT(T)).

“I am thrilled to be the Ontario Liberal Candidate for my home community of Etobicoke—Lakeshore in the next provincial election,” said Fairclough. “Doug Ford’s Conservatives’ approach to this pandemic has left many of us very concerned, including about the erosion of the public health system in favour of privatization. It isn’t right after seeing the extraordinary efforts on the frontline to support care through this pandemic. After these two years leading a hospital, I decided it’s time to put my name forward to run with a party that believes in building more resilient publicly funded health care.”
