TORONTO – Steven Del Duca, Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, made the following statement:
“Doug Ford told us he was acting on the advice of the doctors, but it’s now been revealed that he lied and ignored advice from Public Health Ontario. He betrayed us all by loosening restrictions against the advice of top doctors.
Just a few weeks ago, Doug Ford was bragging about the progress his government was making. Now, Ontario is headed towards disaster, with a staggering 6,000 daily COVID cases projected by December.
If Doug Ford is considering next steps based on the grave projections for December, he needs to be honest about the advice he’s receiving. We cannot afford anymore of his lies when so many lives are on the line.
Thousands are now dead, with a growing number of deaths in nursing homes last week alone. Doug Ford owes all Ontarians an apology, but especially families who’ve lost loved ones to COVID.
If Doug Ford isn’t willing or able to take expert advice into account, he needs to step aside. The stakes are too high.”
