Statement From Steven Del Duca on World Day Against Trafficking in Persons

Human trafficking is a heinous crime. The exploitation of human beings is a despicable and ruthless act.

Most vulnerable are young women and girls, particularly Indigenous women and girls, and members of the LGTBQ2 community. They are often sexually abused and exploited.

It’s a growing problem, and one of the fastest growing crimes, worldwide. No country is immune from the many facets of its reach.

We must remain vigilant, always, to end the practice of human trafficking. While both the federal and provincial governments are taking measures to end this practice, we must always work hard to ensure that no victim is missed, and that all traffickers face justice.

Today, on World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, we reaffirm our commitment to stop this act, to support victims, and help them rebuild.
