Doug Ford has failed our children. Class sizes are growing, teachers are quitting, schools are crumbling, and parents are losing trust in our public education system.
Ontario Liberals are deeply concerned with this situation. As our Leader Bonnie Crombie has said, “Ontario’s Liberals stand with teachers, education workers and support staff, and we will fiercely defend our children’s right to receive world-class public education.”
On Thursday, September 12th at 7:00 PM, join us for a Town Hall on the State of Public Education in Ontario at the Columbus Conference Centre in Waterloo.
Our panelists include:
- Deb Matthews – In addition to being a former Deputy Premier of Ontario, Ms. Matthews was Minister of Advanced Education & Skills Development from 2016 to 2018, during which time she introduced a major expansion to the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) for post-secondary students.
- Patrick Etmanski – Mr. Etmanski is the President of the Waterloo Unit of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA). He brings to our panel the perspective of OECTA’s members in Waterloo Region, based on their current experiences as educators of elementary and secondary students in Ontario’s publicly funded education system.
- Craig Brockwell – Mr. Brockwell taught carpentry, architectural drafting, offset printing, and visual arts at the high school level. He was then a legislative researcher and lobbyist for the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) and a partner at a consultancy whose clients included AEFO and private colleges. Most recently, he was Director of External Affairs for Support Ontario Youth, an organization that helped young people enter the skilled trades.
- Wayne Morris – After working in Correctional Services for 30 years, Mr. Morris became an educator in the criminology field. He developed the Community & Criminal Justice degree program at Conestoga College and was the Head of Community Services for Ontario Colleges (2008-2010). He has been an adjunct professor of criminology at Wilfrid Laurier University for the past 12 years.
The programme for the town hall will include a discussion amongst the panelists, followed by an audience Q&A.
